Much to Celebrate in the 2017 Vintage!
We're going to give you the news as it happens: which of our 2017 wines are receiving accolades at the various wine competitions. The only catch? Not all of these wines are yet released to the public. But here you can see what the judges think of them and start making your list. Watch this web site for notice of releases.
We like to place our wines in international, national, and local competitions. The 2018 British Columbia Wine Awards featured 34 different varietal categories, with a record number of 572 wines entered. Eighteen respected judges narrowed the selection down to 141 finalists with one overall clear winner being declared THE BEST in each category.
The Cascadia Wine Competition, operated by Great Northwest Wine, is the largest judging of Pacific Northwest wine staged in the U.S., and an international panel of 21 experts spent three days evaluating 1,012 wines using fruit from Washington, Oregon, Idaho or British Columbia. The NorthWest Wine Summit focuses on exclusively wines, ciders, sake, and spirits produced in the NorthWest, specifically from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, Wyoming, British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan.
Now in its 79th year, the Los Angeles International Wine Competition has showcased the finest domestic and international vintages through a wine-tasting event that is widely considered to be one of the most prestigious in the United States. The Indy International Wine Competition in Indianapolis, Indiana, included 1800 wines this year.
And the Best of the Best? The Northwest Platinum Competition. In its 19th year, this competition was created as a way to determine the best wines of the Pacific Northwest. To accomplish this, Wine Press tracks more than 50 other worldwide wine competitions to track the gold medals won by wine made from fruit in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and British Columbia. The gold medal winners are invited to participate in the Wine Press Platinum Judging to pick the best of the best from among those winners. A Double Platinum is awarded to the wine that is unanimous voted the best in the category. In 2018, there were 654 entries and Gehringer Brothers continued to dominate, taking 8 more Platinums. That leaves Gordon and Walter Gehringer as the undisputed Kings of the Platinum, with a total of 78 Platinum medals since the inception of the competition, far and away the most Platinum medals awarded any participant in this competition.
